Stone of the Sagittarian
Topaz: Some say its name was derived from the Sanskrit word meaning "fire", others say Topaz received its name Topazios, from the ancients after an island in the Red Sea. Topazios is the Greek word for to guess. The island was almost always covered in fog and hard to find. Just about any stone was likely to be called a Topaz.

The lore, magic and romance of topaz goes back many thousands of years. It holds the distinction of being the gemstone with the widest range of curative powers. Ancient Egyptians thought its golden glow symbolized Ra, their sun god. The Greeks felt it gave them strength. In addition, it supposedly cooled tempers, restored sanity, cured asthma, relieved insomnia and even warded off sudden death. Topaz is said to make its wearer invisible in times of emergency. It proved the loyalty of associates by changing color in the presence of poison.

In ancient lore, it was believed that topaz could control heat and cool boiling water, as well as calm excessive anger. During the Middle Ages, the topaz was used mostly by royalty and clergy. A 13th century belief held that a topaz engraved with a falcon helped its wearer cultivate the goodwill of kings and princes.Topaz was once thought tostrengthen the mind, prevent mental disorders, and increase wisdom.

Tradition has it that Topaz helped foretell the future, enhance sexual energy, and promote harmony. It aids in bringing forth your leadership qualities and enables you to grasp control of any situation you confront in life. Topaz makes you feel more in control of yourself or the situations you encounter and helps you deal with them in a competent fashion. It helps you take the lead and handle things in a competent fashion. In her book entitled Stone Power, Dorothee L. Mella has much to say on the subject of Topaz's abilities: "Ancient lore claims great healing powers for this stone, especially the power to control angry passions and to balance diseases of emotional origin. It was believed to prevent colds and tuberculosis because of its ability to give additional strength to the breathing mechanics of the body."

Mounted in gold it is said to enhance these properties, rings, wrist bracelets and necklaces with the stone next to the heart are thought to be the most projective. When worn it is said that the stone relieves depression, anger, fear, greed and other negative emotions. It is also claimed as a projective stone against nightmares, restlessness and sleep walking along with regulation of the stomach and other digestive and internal organs. Because of its association with gold, it is used to bring or enhance the wearer's gold and money gathering abilities long used for money and wealth rituals.Wearing topaz is said to bring friendship, better and deeper relationships and enhance ones ability to give and revive love.
